Aphrodite (Afro) Nazirides, 94, of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, surround by loved ones. Born Aphrodite Anderson on May 15, 1932, she spent her childhood in her homeland of Serres (Macedonia), Greece. She immigrated to Chester, PA in 1957 with her late husband Avgitas spending the rest of her life dedicated to her six children.
Afro was a long-time member and volunteer at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Her heritage remained essential to her throughout her life, especially when she spent time cooking for her family, close friends, and visitors--which was constant. She also was a driving force in the family's successful restaurant business for 25 years. Her guiding principles were shaped by ‘Philoxenia’, the Greek concept of hospitality, which she lived every day in love for her family, service to her community, and her embrace of the wonderful blend of Hellenic and American cultures.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Avgitas and son, Angelo, Afro is now survived by her children Chrisoula, Nicholas (Argie), Michael, Lou (Desanne), and Marianthe (John), and her grandchildren, Eleni Nazirides, Nicoletta Nazirides, Bobby Geroulanos, Nicholas Geroulanos, Evan Geroulanos and Michael Nazirides.
