Alice M. Holefelder Dougherty, 88

Longtime Aston Resident


Alice M. Holefelder Dougherty, 88, of Aston, died August 19, 2011 at Naamans Creek Country Manor. Mrs. Dougherty was born in the Rockdale section of Aston Township and later moved to Village Green with her family. She attended the Village Green School, Crozerville School and Media High School.


She was employed by Hoys 5 & 10, Swift Cleaners and for 14 years was assistant cook for The Sisters of Saint Francis at Our Lady of Angels Convent where she retired from. Mrs. Dougherty was previously involved in several local organizations, including The Lenni Heights Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, the Aston Lioness Club, The Aston Senior Citizens, and was a charter member of the Aston Township Historical Society. For many years she had been a poll worker for Aston Township's First Ward. During her lifetime, she received the Outstanding Citizen Award, along with her husband, from Aston's Board of Commissioners. Mrs. Dougherty also received the Catherine McKeown Memorial Award from Lenni Heights Fire Co. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Lenni. Her hobbies included reading, enjoying her flower gardens, and listening to her favorite music.


Alice was daughter of the late William and Sarah McCormick Holefelder, sister of the late George Holefelder and Ann Guzenski.


She is survived by husband of 64 years, Paul L. Dougherty, son Paul W. Dougherty (Gail), two grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her brothers William Holefelder (Kirky) and Albert Holefelder (Peggy) and her sister Helen Holefelder Zehner, along with many nieces and nephews.


Funeral Mass: 10 AM Saturday at St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church, 39 New Road, Lenni, PA 19052.


Visitation: 7 to 9 PM Friday and 8:30 to 9:15 AM Saturday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 3551 Concord Road, Aston


Burial: St. Francis de Sales Cemetery
